StoryWalk™ was created originally by Anne Ferguson of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library (www.kellogghubbard.org/storywalk.html) in Montpelier, Vermont. It combines pages of a children’s story affixed to a presentation board which is then attached to a post. Posts are placed some distance from each other along a hiking trail, footpath or in a park where pedestrians may stop at their leisure to read before moving on to the next “page”. The unique presentation connecting children with reading in the natural world as well as along urban pathways is an attraction that encourages healthy outdoor activity. |

RSVP Literacy Corps is creating a "Lending" Library of children's books presented in this way. The goal is to make StoryWalk TM installations available to central Massachusetts organizations who would like to "host" them. The first such installation was the stunningly beautiful A Place for Butterflies, by Massachusetts author, Melissa Stewart. Audubon's Broad Meadow Brook Sanctuary in Worcester. |
|
It became the book’s temporary home during the “Butterfly Festival” in August, 2009. The installation was enjoyed by countless visitors through October, 2009. |
