Literacy Corps Members Receive Thomas Jefferson Awards

“Joseph Modesty has been a faithful RSVP literacy volunteer at Grafton Street School for the past three years.  Each week he comes to Mrs. White’s first grade classroom to read to and with students.  The students eagerly await their “special turn” to show off their developing reading skills.

We were happy to be present at the end of school last year when Joe Modesty received his Thomas Jefferson Award in a ceremony at the Worcester Technical/Vocational High School.  The program contained the above written words about Joe, pictured here with his adoring fans.  Congratulations, Joe!

Theresa Davitt – pictured to the right with Norrback Principal, Dr. Karrie Allen – has contributed to the library “health” of two schools.  She received the “Thomas Jefferson Award” for her work at Norrback School.

“Without Theresa Davitt’s guiding hand, the library at Norrback Avenue School would be in a state of disarray.  Through RSVP, Theresa volunteers her time to keep the library organized and in good order.  She is reliable and hard working, often spending over 40 hours a month at the school.  With her background as a librarian, she knows what has to be done and she does it without having to wait for someone to tell her.

Theresa is welcomed regularly at Norrback by Assistant Principal, John Riccio and at the equally fortunate Vernon Hill School where Principal Irene Logan is a huge fan.  Here she is pictured with Theresa just before Theresa received her “Thomas Jefferson Award”.  Congratulations, Theresa!
